Micro Inverters: The Smart Choice for Solar Panels

24/03/2026

Micro inverters are a modern technology in the field of photovoltaics, where each panel has its own autonomous inverter. Unlike classic systems that use a central inverter (string inverter), micro inverters maximize the performance of each panel individually.

Why choose a Micro Inverter?

  • Maximum Performance: If one panel is shaded or dirty, the others continue to produce at 100%. Each panel operates autonomously with its own MPPT unit.
  • Absolute Safety: Conversion from DC to AC happens directly on the panel, eliminating the high DC voltages (up to 1000V) present in string systems and reducing the risk of fire.
  • Scalability: Start with 1-2 panels and add more whenever you want, without changing the central equipment.
  • Long Lifespan: Warranties of 20-25 years, almost double that of classic inverters.
  • Smart Monitoring: Monitor the performance of each panel individually from your mobile via an app.

Legal Framework in Greece (2025-2026)

The institutional framework in Greece has evolved significantly with the introduction of Net Billing and subsidy programs.

Net Billing (Simultaneous Net Metering)

This is the current regime for new systems. Energy consumed at the time of production is free, while the surplus is sold to the grid at a predetermined price. Systems with micro inverters are ideal for self-production, even on balconies (Plug & Play up to 800W), provided that DEDDIE (HEDNO) specifications are met.

Licensing Procedure

  • Installer's Declaration of Responsibility (YDE): Required even for plug-in systems.
  • Notification to DEDDIE (HEDNO): The owner must inform DEDDIE (HEDNO) through the digital application platform.
  • Meter Type: A digital (smart) meter that allows bidirectional measurement is required. Old analog meters with a disc may cause problems.
  • Deadlines: Projects up to 400 kW have a readiness declaration deadline until December 31st.

Subsidy Programs

There are active programs such as "Photovoltaics on the Roof" and "Photovoltaics in the Field" that cover part of the equipment cost. Contact us to find out if you are eligible for a subsidy.

Important Notes

  • Net Billing Regime: The energy you produce and do not consume at that moment is "lost" to the grid, unless you have officially entered a Net Billing regime.
  • Plug & Play systems: Ideal for balconies and small installations up to 800W, with a simple connection to the socket.

Conclusion

Micro inverters are the ideal solution for those who want maximum performance, safety, and flexibility in their photovoltaic system. Whether you are planning an installation on a roof or a balcony, micro inverter technology offers a reliable and long-term solution for your energy independence.
