Solar PV Maintenance 2026 | Inspection & Technical Support
Correct solar PV maintenance is not a generic package that fits every installation. Inspection should be adapted to the system type, inverter, storage, fault history and actual operating conditions.
What a technical inspection may include
PV array
Visual inspection of modules, mounting, visible damage, cabling and areas requiring further investigation.
Inverter & operation
Review of indications, alarms, operating history, production and available system parameters.
AC/DC boards & protection
Inspection of fuses, isolation, connections and protection devices. Earthing and lightning protection are checked where installed or required by the design.
Batteries & BMS
For storage systems, BMS communication, alarms, basic operating data and inverter compatibility are assessed.
Monitoring
Review of remote monitoring, communications and logs where the system provides a monitoring platform.
Thermography where appropriate
Thermal imaging may be used selectively to investigate thermal anomalies in equipment and connections when measurement conditions are suitable.
When an inspection is worthwhile
- When there is an unusual drop in production or a recurring alarm.
- After electrical work, a fault, an extreme weather event or intervention on the equipment.
- Before expanding the PV array, inverter or battery storage.
- Periodically, at an interval appropriate to the system type and operating conditions.
PV module cleaning
Cleaning does not need to follow an arbitrary fixed schedule. Local soiling, module tilt, access and the actual condition of the installation should be assessed before intervention is recommended.
